Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) guidance notes, rulings and licence requirements for electrical work, The Supply Authority Service and Installation Rules 2019 (SIR’s) and amendments and The Victorian Electricity Supply Industry.
These are City Power, Ausnet, Powercor, Jemena and United Energy.
All these companies have faults and emergencies numbers when required.
The electrical supply and new connection requirements for all new or existing premises should be directed to the customer’s energy retailer through the correct and appropriate paperwork such as an electrical works request form (EWR). This is then followed up by phone calls for checking on the paper work and a phone call from the customer to open a new account when required.
A Certificate of electrical safety (COES) or commonly referred to as a CES may be required at the same time or later depending on the electrical situation and works involved.
We can help and assist with filling out of the paper work and advising on which electricity retailer to use to enable a quick and hassle free new connection arrangement and we recommend using email to submit forms.
A standard exemption can be for a minor alteration to a rule, standard installation practices and is usually obtained through Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) by applying to them, with a just and sound case for an exemption to a rule.
Certain criteria would then be placed on the installation work to adhere to.
Please Contact us to discuss examples of these.
There are three types, of certificates of electrical safety for electrical installation works.
I, the licensed electrical installation worker named above, who carried out the electrical installation work described above, certify that the electrical work has passed all the required tests and complies in all respects with the Electricity Safety Act 1998 and the Electricity Safety (Installations) Regulations 2009.
This also means that the work complies too all appropriate Australian and New Zealand standards, requirements, acts and codes such as, but not limited to AS/NZS 3000:2018.
You are signing a legal document stating all these facts and that you have successfully conducted all your required and mandatory tests for each installation.
We understand this takes a little bit of time to conduct all the required tests at the end of an electrical installation or service job, but we see no reason why the costs of installing, testing and supplying of a certificate of electrical safety are not divided up in the quote or invoice for the customer to see. This would enable you to explain issues such as electrical installation safety, licencing, your insurance requirements and their home or building insurance requirements, to do with all electrical work being carried out at the premises.
Safety of each person and property is always paramount and can only be assured with complete and proper installation, and testing methods conducted by licensed electricians and registered electrical contractors. We can assist with training and testing techniques and practices to improve your skills, speed and understanding of all your requirements in relation to the signing of a certificate of electrical safety.
